Hen Mazzig is an Israeli speaker and writer who has inspired thousands with his story. Named as one of the Algemeiner’s top 100 people positively influencing Jewish life, Hen is an energetic activist and advocate for his people. As the son of Mizrahi Jewish refugees from Iraq and North Africa (Berber Jews from Tunisia), Hen has a unique and important voice in today’s discussions, sharing his family’s story as part of the 850,000 Jewish refugees from the Middle East and North Africa.

As a young Israeli, Hen served in the IDF for almost five years as an openly gay commander. During his service as a lieutenant in the COGAT unit, he worked as an intermediary between the Israeli Defense Forces (the IDF), the Palestinian Authority, the UN, and many non-governmental organizations that operate in the West Bank. Hen’s unit was responsible for overseeing the construction of medical facilities, schools, environmental projects, roads, water-related infrastructure, and for security coordination with the Palestinian Security Forces, part of the Palestinian Authority. From 2013-2015, Hen was the Campus Coordinator for a pro-israel campus group in the Pacific Northwest, during which he fought many BDS resolutions on college campuses. From 2015-2017 Hen led the Israel Education Department for a pro-Israel advocacy organization. He quickly became the leading Israeli voice reclaiming intersectionality and progressive Zionism.

Hen’s award-winning articles have been published in the LA Times, NBC News, Haaretz, The Forward, Jewish Chronicle, International Business Times and more. He has shared his story with thousands of students throughout the USA, Canada and the UK over the last 8 years. In September 2016, he began working as a freelance consultant to help pro-Israel and social justice causes, and he also volunteered as the head of the Transgender and Health department at the National Israeli LGBTQ Task Force "The Nir Kates Center" in Tel Aviv. Hen is very active on social media, with more than 25,000 followers on Twitter, and tens of thousands on other social media platforms

Hen has a proven track record of creating dialogue and changing hearts and minds where it seemed impossible. He has built relationships and changed hearts and minds not simply by sharing the truth about Israel and the history of the region, but by being a voice for justice for diverse groups and peoples. He is a rare voice in a divisive day and age that can unite people for a common cause rather than sowing discord over clashing narratives.
